Introduction: I have over 30 years’ experience in writing, editing, layout, public speaking, tutoring, and coaching others. I’ve been an avid reader since age three. I know the English language! •I have created monthly newsletters for three clubs, writing reports myself and obtaining and editing others from members. I also completed the layout, printing, and mailing. •I am trained in Public Relations and have often held press conferences myself and trained others how to do it effectively. •I am trained in reading and writing legal briefs, and have managed several lawsuits for one of my employers. •I have edited a novel for a friend, a recently published novel, and an electrical repair manual so far. •I have trained people in public speaking and in sales. •In my most recent job I trained and coached a team of 40 to 50 people how to effectively hand out samples and sell the product. •I have tutored writing and speaking for several non-native speakers of the English language and helped one get straight A grades in college and eventually a job in that school’s IT department. •I have worked for large organizations in their communications and advertising departments helping to craft the written word to best support the unfolding vision within the company. •I have tutored two PhD students toward their degrees.. Services I offer: •I tutor people of all ages who need help with any aspect of the English language. •Phonics •Beginning reading •Spelling *Pronunciation *Grammar *Vocabulary *Basics of writing: sentences, paragraphs, etc. Pricing for tutoring: •I charge by the hour for tutoring and the same for 45 minutes as for an hour. (You might as well take the full 60 minutes.) •The first session is always free so we can get to know each other and I can evaluate the student’s needs. •After the first session I expect payment ($50 an hour) before the start of the lesson. •I give a ten percent discount to anyone who pays for ten sessions in advance: $450 for ten lessons. Contact me today and tell me how I can best help you. I love people and I love the English language. When people increase their ability to communicate understandably it gives them freedom and control in their lives, and I love helping them achieve that. Knowing English, knowing how to do what you need to do in English, increases confidence, job skills and income, enhances pleasure in reading, improves the ability to learn any subject, eases interpersonal relationships, and on and on. Helping people attain that knowledge is completely satisfying to me.

Reading and Writing Tutoring

Lynn has been great tutoring our 12 year old in reading and writing. I feel strongly that the public schools have failed him. She is able to speak on the same level with him without making him feel dumb or patronized. She is a bit old-fashioned in her teaching style but that’s possibly what I like most about her. She gets straight to the root of words to take a lot of the guess work out of his reading. She focuses on the things the schools have stopped teaching which is great because the lack of these things does a disservice to the students. She is patient with our challenging and distracted kid and emphasizes his mistakes by pushing him to correct them while at the same time explaining why he’s wrong. It helps that she does this without making him feel inadequate. These are all good things. She is invested and doesn’t come across as though she is in this for any reason other than to teach. You’re in good hands if you choose Lynn.

Reading and Writing Tutoring

My husband had a very hard time reading, and so we decided to see what tutoring could do. Wow! Not only did his reading improve, but so much more! Lynn helped him with Reading and writing, which led to better computer skills, communication, grammar and so much more! We honestly can not thank Lynn enough for everything she has done thus far. With an adult looking to get help, this tutoring method was perfect. We were worried about the virtual learning method since it’s something we have never encountered, but Lynn helps and walks you through every step, as well as guides you through books and apps. I couldn’t recommend her enough! We are so thankful to have found her!

Reading and Writing Tutoring

I’m one of those people that rarely writes reviews. Our experience with Lynn the Tutor justifies a rave review. We are fortunate as our eldest son seldom struggles academically. Freshman year, his English and grammar grades suffered and we decided to hire a tutor. Based on the fantastic reviews, I emailed Lynn. From the first contact, we appreciated her responsiveness and professionalism. My son went from receiving 70% on his writing assignments in Honors English to 100% (I’m not exaggerating). According to my son, “Since I started tutoring with Ms. Lynn, my grades have gone up dramatically. I am a stronger writer and more confident in myself and reading strategies. My vocabulary improved and I’ve been challenged to learn more.” All that from a teenager! Please reach out to Lynn. You won’t be disappointed.

Reading and Writing Tutoring

I am from Asia and was worried about writing and reading skill of my kids because I can neither advise nor teach those skills. That's why my son is studying English with Lynn. My son said she is excellent in teaching English, and he seems very happy to study with her. I think one of Lynn's best teaching skills is to make students feel happy to study English. I strongly recommend her as an English teacher. My son becomes a freshman in the high school this fall 2020.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

The first meeting is always free. This gives me a chance to learn how best to work with the client, and the client a chance to learn if we are a good fit.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I often ask for a writing sample to be emailed to me before our first meeting. I edit this with the student, correcting grammar, punctuation, and spelling as we go and teaching the principles needed. I also provide writing tips to make the passages read better. I teach only the things the student does not already know. Then I choose a book that will challenge, but not overwhelm the student for him/her to read to me online from my Nook book. I coach the student in good reading and pronunciation and find the words the student doesn’t understand. These go into the vocabulary list I keep for each student. I teach short cuts to increasing vocabulary, and short cuts to writing essays. I prepare each lesson specific to each student for optimum progress.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I never gained a college degree, but I’ve been a life long student. My mother taught me to read at age three, and even before that, even my first halting words had to be correctly pronounced. I spoke complete, grammatical sentences before I could walk; I read novels by age five. In my thirties I taught myself to speed read and to read Middle English. My method for learning any new subject used to be to go to the library and skim through about twenty books on the subject and take home half a dozen to read. Now I have the internet and can learn new subjects even more quickly. In various jobs I’ve written, edited, done public speaking and trained others to do it, created newsletters, flyers, and business cards, tutored friends and children in reading, writing, speaking, and grammar. I have been offered the editorship of a newspaper with no references and without applying, simply because I speak correctly. I have edited a novel. On the side, I have been taught how to teach, starting when I taught ballroom dancing. My last job was training and coaching people and I had from 40 to 50 of them to work with all the time. I know English. I know how to teach. I can help you.
