Kristi is a superb equestrian coach and trainer. Before being taught by Kristi I had been riding for several years and had been on a plateau for too long. I am an older adult and had been riding in lessons 2-3 times a week. The progress I made with Kristi was incredible (and immediate) even riding the same horse. Kristi sees the details and can tell/show her student how to fix the problems. In private or group settings, Kristi always brings a high level of energy to each lesson. Kristi is thoughtful, creative and focused on keeping it safe - for the horse and rider. In a group lesson environment, Kristi manages to make the lesson very effective and manageable even with students at different levels. My young adult daughter is also coached by Kristi. Her confidence as well as mine has improved significantly. I highly recommend Kristi Gates whether you want to excel in the competitive show ring or for pure pleasure.

Not only have I been a student of Kristi’s for the past year, but I have also witnessed her transform a novice riders into a confident jumping equestrians, train countless riders to win their divisions at horse shows, and even empower my mother to purchase her own horse, which she thought she would never do.
After not performing to my potential while in college, my confidence plummeted. Building up someone’s confidence on a horse is not something just anyone can do, but Kristi has done just that. Taking regular lessons with Kristi, I feel comfortable on the horses she puts me on and know I can trust her to keep both me and the horse I am riding safe. However, her lessons always challenge me and push me in new ways so that I am always discovering how to improve my riding. No two lessons are the same, but they are ALWAYS fun!
Another key differentiators about Kristi is that she has tremendous integrity with her work and will do what's best for both rider and horse. If something is not right, she will not push that horse beyond its limit to get a lesson out of it. Instead, she will problem solve on the spot to either use a different horse, for example, or reschedule a lesson so that the horse isn't overworked or increases injury/sickness.
Kristi also cares. Your relationship with her is not transactional. Even after my mom moved to the other side of the country, Kristi has stayed in touch and is even flying down to teach a clinic! Kristi goes above and beyond and delivers exceptional training.

I highly recommend training with Kristi Gates to everyone! Kristi is impeccably professional, has the depth of knowledge to customize a training plan to fit any horse and rider, and possesses an acute attention to detail that is truly uncommon. The Gates Equestrian facilities at Cheval Hill are full service and immaculate, including huge indoor and outdoor arenas, heated wash racks, and daily turnout on grass. As an adult finally realizing my dream of learning to jump, my lessons at Gates Equestrian are the highlights of my week!
