FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Asking key questions to understand their goals, are they looking to improve their technique, compete in tournaments, or just have fun and get in better shape? Knowing what they want to achieve helps me design a training plan that aligns with their aspirations. Discover their preferred learning style, do they learn best from hearing instruction, seeing demonstrations/videos of them playing, or reading? This helps me adapt my coaching methods to make the learning process as effective and enjoyable as possible. Understanding their playing preferences, singles, doubles, or just hitting with friends. This can shape the focus of our sessions. Singles players might need more attention on movement, endurance, and mental toughness, while doubles players may need to focus on teamwork, positioning, and net play. Assess current skill level, I always take some time at the beginning to see where they are in terms of skills and technique. Whether they’re a beginner or more advanced, it’s important to know their current level so I can build from there and avoid making things too easy or too challenging. Based on these insights, I create a coaching plan that caters to their individual needs, ensuring it’s aligned with their goals, learning style, and preferences. Whether it's refining technique, enhancing strategy, or preparing for competition, the plan is tailored to help them grow in a way that feels natural and exciting.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I got started in this line of work when I picked up tennis in high school, simply because some friends were on the high school team. As I started playing, I quickly fell in love with the game and its challenges. Tennis became more than just a hobby—it became a passion. When exploring colleges, I discovered the Professional Tennis Management program at Ferris State University. The program immediately caught my interest because it combined my love for tennis with the possibility of turning it into a career. The idea of working on the tennis court, living an active lifestyle, and, most importantly, helping others reach their individual goals, was incredibly appealing to me.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I have had the privilege of coaching a wide range of players throughout my career, from beginners to seasoned competitors. My coaching experience spans across all ages—from 3 to 88 years old—and all skill levels, including complete beginners to national tournament players, as well as athletes in wheelchair tennis. While working with players of all backgrounds, my specialty lies in adult players, particularly those currently competing in or aspiring to compete in USTA leagues and tournaments. My experience with competitive play as a player and a coach, creates a unique understanding to help adult players elevate their skills and excel in the competitive tennis world.
