FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm currently enrolled in the University of Washington Master's in Teaching Program for Secondary Science Education.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Toward my senior year of undergraduate study, I realized that I was being pulled more and more toward classes in teaching and learning. Previously I thought I wanted to be a veterinarian, but after college, I became TESOL certified, and moved to Indonesia to teach English, and see if that was what I really wanted to do. After moving home to Seattle, I applied and was accepted to the University of Washington College of Education Master's in Teaching program for Secondary Science Education (middle and high school). While going through that program, tutoring will be a good way to continue to use my teaching skills.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Most recently I taught English and subjects (math and science) in English to students in Indonesia. Most students spoke Mandarin Chinese and/or Bahasa Indonesia, with English as their third language. I taught students from grades 1-12, and dealt with class sizes from 5-28. It required a great deal of flexibility and creativity, and proved to me that teaching is really what I want to do for my career.
