What do you enjoy about the work you do?

The best part about working in music is meeting new and interesting people! It's a blast to take ideas from just that to a finished product. The first time they hear a finished mix and say, "we can't believe you made us sound that good" we know we're doing something right.

    Jason Suko, Recording Guru
Jason provided the perfect setting and equipment for recording. He put us at ease, and created a balanced, warm quality blending our two voices and instruments beautifully. The price was very reasonable especially since we were able to complete ten songs within three hours including his mix time.

By far the best studio in the Olympia area! My first time there we tested three high quality mic's to see which one fit my voice the best. Very professional, and if you want to work with someone who will push you to your full potential "south sound sound" is the place to be!

Highly skilled at mixing. Excellent ear! We tested three mics before we started recording, in this case, audio books for kids. I ended up with the audio books I was hoping for at a very fair price. Worth the drive.

Working at South Sound Sound was an incredible experience. Jason was very welcoming, knowledgeable, and flexible. We spent one day tracking an 8 song ep and one evening mixing. The results were staggering for having spent such a short amount of time together. We found ourselves in a relaxed and loose setting. The best atmosphere for making a record. The music reflects it, too.

Jason is the man about making quality music no matter the subjects. Always been professional as it gets and doesn't get any better. Can't wait to get back in the ring and make some more music.

Q&A

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
- We meet over the net or phone - In some cases we do a pre-production meet up at the studio to get aquainted and discuss the project - Tracking is scheduled (sometimes multiple sessions) - When tracking is is complete mixes are done in unattended sessions. Tracks are shared via Google drive or drop box - Mix revisions occur - Mastering is final step The exception to this may be shorter Hip Hop/Rap session for instance where all of this is condensed into one 2-3hr session.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Learning is constant in this business, and good taste rules (something that cannot be taught). The 10,000 working hour rule to master your craft certainly does apply and there is no substitute for on the job experience. Listen to professionals music examples, let your ears tell you the truth.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your service? If so, please share the details here.
- $35/hr - $125 for half day -$250 for full day We accept Cash, Check or Credit Cards
What types of customers have you worked with?
We work with independent solo artists and bands (3-10 people). We work with everyday people, those who just want to record their ideas from themselves, to those looking to break it big. We offer not only recording but producing and collaboration. We have been recording for many years and have a multitude of artists available to play instruments or sing in sessions on a for hire basis.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
It is important for clients looking for a recording studio to feel comfortable with whom they are working with. Music is a very personal and artistic process, you are vulnerable with your music and we do what we can to make each project personal to the artist and make them feel at ease. Comfort with your producer, engineer and the studio itself is critical as that comfort level will come out in the music! South Sound Sound is clean, spacious and inviting.
