A Canine Experience, Inc. is pleased to be your full-service dog center, offering professional and caring help to owners and their pets. Our priority is the well-being of your dog and your family.

Since 1986 owner and founder Nancy Baer, co-author of "Leader of the Pack" and "Choosing a Dog," has worked full time, training thousands of dogs and owners, giving her experience with all types of dog behavior problems.Nancy's expertise in the show ring has earned a number of titles in obedience, agility and conformation. Pioneering a unique project for well-known wineries has given her insight and expertise in training scent dogs.

A Canine Experience, Inc. opened its doors in 1995 as a dog trainer school when Nancy Baer realized there was a great need to educate people who wanted to become professional dog trainers. A Canine Experience, Inc. boarding and training facility was added in 2001.

Currently, A Canine Experience, Inc. is co-owned by Nancy's three daughters and granddaughter who have been training under her. Andrea Baer has over 15 years of training experience and Trina Eddy has over 20 years of training experience. Jessica Brill and Autumn Baer actively participate in the daily operations and are in the process of mastering their training skills.

We offer a specialized training program, which begins with a thorough evaluation of your dog's problems. We then carefully design a specific plan to suit you and your dog. We are experienced with all dog problems, from basic house manners to aggression issues.

Nancy Baer and Trina Eddy present a variety of informational seminars for group functions, shelters, associations, etc. Subjects taught include dog etiquette, forming a working relationship with your dog, problem solving, understanding dog behavior and more. Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Find out what the routine is. Make sure dogs have an outdoor place to go potty or it can interfere with house training. Take the time to go tour the kennel your leaving your pets at. Check that the facility is properly insured.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. We are a small family owned and operated full service facility with combined training experience of over 60 years. We are experts in the field of dog training and behavior modification. We are not only dog trainers, but we train others who want to become trainers or care takers. Nancy Baer, founder of A Canine Experience Inc., has four published books, a home correspondance course for potential trainers and a Dog Trainers Workbook.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. Recently we worked with a dog to become a service dog for a boy with some behavior challenges. The dog needed to be well mannered enough to go into public places with the boy including attending school with him. We got the most wonderful compliment from the mother about what a great job we did and how much it has changed the boys life. They are able to take him places that were a challenge before and he has a new sense of confidence.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. Find a credible trainer to work with. Come to A Canine Experience to take the Dog Trainers and Care Takers Vocational Course or take their Home Correspondance Course. Practice training your friends and neighbors dog. Read the "Leader of the Pack" book and be sure you have a clear understanding of how dogs interact with each other. Use that knowledge to be a good leader to the dogs you are working with. Leaders are confident, patient and fair - you must be the same. Study dog breeds and their traits.
