My assignment with Marcia involved the typical process of logo development I talk about in my profile: taking a germ of an idea and developing it through the steps necessary to arrive at the final product. This was all an assignment that required special consideration for her printing needs: she wanted either a metallic foil or metallic ink incorporated into the printed pieces. I walked her through that process of finding a local printer who could deliver for her and provide dazzling results. As clients go, she dedicated a lot of personal time herself to finding the right printer to achieve that result. She was very enthusiastic about being involved in this process.

Michael is every creative pro's dream client! It's not often us creative types get to work with others from a creative industry. - What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Most of my clients feel more comfortable with a flat rate for projects like logo design and packaging. I try to provide as accurate a number as possible and am always willing to discuss their budget before hand, doing everything I can to accommodate it. With logo design and branding image development what I like to stress is that my client is not just buying a "design," but a design process. It's the process that results in a design solution that is customized to a specific brand and targeted to their market. The result is something that they will utilize for years if not decades to come. LARGER CLIENTS FROM LARGER COMPANIES will often ask for an hourly rate. For creative design, which includes concept and layout, my hourly rate starts at 50/hr. Prepress file building ranges from 35-50/hr. I also have more than 20 years experience in PHOTO ART DIRECTION, having worked for many Fortune 500 companies across this country. Either a day rate or an hour rate can be negotiated. Hourly rates vary,depending if the project is done in the studio of on location. The Initial kick off meeting onsite is no charge. Subsequent meetings, the charges for that time involved, including travel can be negotiated. In most cases if an initial meeting is necessary, after that it usually suffices to send digital files via email and communicate by text or Skype.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?Having them verbalize their needs first is essential. I try to ask as many questions as possible and encourage them to provide me with as much visual reference as they have. I like to explain that in the case of logo/branding development, it IS a process and the first design submissions may not look like the final product at all. I try to be available promptly for any questions or concerns. I rarely take on more than two projects at a time. I like to be available to my clients 24/7 if necessary. I realize we often have different schedules and I like to assure them that I'm available most hours to accommodate them.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I graduated from Art Center College of Design, which is one of the top three commercial art schools, with a Bachelor's Degree in Advertising Illustration. I attended on full scholarship and graduated with Honors I've been a avid subscriber of Lynda.com for a while. Always tapping into that source to find the latest updates in the Adobe programs I use. I frequently am updating my skill especially when software upgrades are released. I routinely take training courses on UDEMY and refer to specific video training on YouTube.
