FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As a Certified Professional Building designer, not only was I required to take a multiday test on architectural history, basic engineering, bulding code comliance and design solutions, but I am required to have 8 continuing education credits each year to maintain my certification. This requirement assures my clients that I am constantly learning about new materials and the latest methods of construction as well as refreshing my understanding of the best building practices and systems available.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Most clients come to me to design recreational cabins and full time residences recognizing that my 35 plus years of living, building and designing in the Northwest has provided me the experience and knowledge to develop designs appropriate for the climate and lifestyle while expressing a clear understanding that the project will reflect the client's criteria, site and budget. Many clients are drawn to work with me due to my extensive knowledge and experience developing energy efficient designs and my expertise in siting homes in difficult terrain.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Many clients do not understand that a well designed and detailed set of plans can save the owner the cost of the design professional's fee. By selecting the most appropriate materials and methods of construction and the most appropriate systems to provide a comfortable indoor environment, the designer is able to maximize the owner's return on their investment. The lowest priced dcesigner will not necessarily result in the most cost effective construction details or selections.
