Introduction: Since I started coaching public speaking over a decade ago, I've spent thousands of hours presenting--in sports radio broadcasting, competitive forensics/debate, corporate settings, stand-up comedy and podcasting. Thanks to this range and depth of experience, I'm comfortable teaching both beginners and professionals in presentation fundamentals and advanced speaking techniques. In addition to being deeply knowledgeable, extremely dedicated and highly responsive, I take time to learn about each student's unique speaking goals, struggles and strengths--and then tailor my coaching to them. Since I take on only a limited number of students, I'm able to thoughtfully design individualized lessons for each--no cookie-cutter curriculum here. I also analyze students' practice recordings outside of our sessions for free, effectively cutting my rate by as much as half while allowing me to pack more insights & feedback into each session. Lastly, I take students behind the scenes of the coaching process, explaining my methods and encouraging self-analysis--so that even after our sessions conclude, you can be your own coach and keep improving as a speaker for the rest of your life! Areas of focus: - Business communication (presentations, Q&A or general discussion) - Job or academic interview prep - Helping shy kids build conversation skills & become more comfortable speaking in class or social settings. - And if nerves are your nemesis, I offer a wealth of practical strategies to overcome, manage and/or speak well despite them. Additional/related skills include: - Voiceover training (for those looking to narrate training videos or start a podcast/vlog) - Audio editing - Writing/copyediting (I spent four years writing for a financial firm) You can watch/listen to some of my work in the links below, which include the winning speech at a company-wide presentation competition, plus several episodes of my podcast (in which I coached the guests in speaking/voiceover fundamentals). Reach out for a free consultation--I'd be delighted to chat!

Public Speaking Lessons

Jamie is a great coach! I have been taking weekly sessions with him for over a month now and every session has been very productive and useful. He is very detailed oriented and well prepared before each session. I am already noticing progress and would highly recommend to anyone working on their public speaking skills. Few pointers from my experience: 1. Weekly assignments are timely assessed and feedbacks are shared over emails 2. He makes sure he understands the clients expectations/goals from these sessions and structures his lessons accordingly 3. He is very responsive 4. Every class is planned before hand In a nutshell, Jamie is a great coach and I have had a great learning experience.

He was quick to respond to communications, flexible with my schedule, and seemed to truly care about my progress. Thanks Jamie, wishing you the best!

Public Speaking Lessons

Working with Jamie for help with professional speaking and presentation skills has been a delight. Jamie is easy to work with and very responsive. He has put in a great amount of effort to tailor our sessions to my specific (and not particularly common) industry. He comes up with creative and helpful ways to address my specific goals. I have seen specific improvements as a result of our work together and have also been encouraged through the identification of strengths I was not aware of previously. I recommend Jamie to any one seeking to improve both skills and confidence in their professional communications.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

As I build out my client base on Thumbtack, I'm offering discounts for those who pre-pay for multiple lessons. Take advantage before rates return to normal levels!

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

    - Discuss what they're looking to get out of our sessions--what they're struggling with, what settings they speak in, how they define success. - Craft a lesson plan (including homework, exercises and live presentations) based on their goals. - Work with them until they're fully satisfied with my results--nothing less.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

    - Taught multiple corporate public speaking classes to colleagues at former company. - Won a company-wide presentation competition (~3000 employees, ~50 competition participants, four elimination rounds). - Experience answering high-net-worth investors' in-person questions about financial markets and current events. - Nearly four years of podcast hosting encompassing well over 100 episodes. About half of the episodes feature guests who I put through intensive vocal training to ensure conversational, natural delivery. - Two years of sports radio broadcasting in college. - Featured speaker at several high school forensics camps and seminars. - Recurring stand-up comedy appearances (pre-Covid).
