What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Rule of thumb, budget about $800 to $1,200 for each Security Camera - for a complete and installed Video Security System. $900 plus for Burglar System. Access Control $1,500 up.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Super low cost Video Security products, will be what they are worth - little value, and a waste of money in many cases. On the other hand, stay away from high end, name brand product also, as they are, for the most part no better performing than the some of the better middle market products.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Video systems (especially those with Mega Pixel cameras) record a large amount of data, including motion detection, video images, time and date etc. A good system, needs cameras with enough resolution for each view and must be fast and easy to use. That means good video management software and high end processing power.
