- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first thing I do after scheduling the appointment is set up access to the home if needed either through the buyers/sellers agent, or through Showingtime. After confirmation, I will send you the agreement via email that you can look through and digitally sign. The agreement lets you know what is included in the inspection and holds me to the ASHI standards. On the day of the inspection, if you are on-site, I will walk you through some of the more significant defects and issues that I find after the inspection is completed. If you are not on-site, I will give you a call. You should receive your home inspection report in 12-24 hours - sometimes less depending on how busy we are.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Currently, there is no license or licensing process in the State of MN for Home Inspections. Anyone can be a Home Inspector. To test for Radon, an inspector needs to complete an approved initial radon measurement training course and pass an approved radon measurement examination. In the state of Wisconsin, they require all inspectors to be licensed with the State. In order to receive your license, you need to pass the National Home Inspector Association Exam (about a 4-hour test), pass the State of Wisconsin Building Code test, and meet continuing education requirements. In order to be licensed to test for Radon, contractors must pass a national exam, meet continuing education requirements, maintain a quality-assurance program, and follow appropriate testing protocols. I have the qualifications and needed licenses to perform Home Inspection and Radon Testing in both Minnesota and Wisconsin.
