Introduction: I am very knowledgeable and patient. I have taught all ages and bring years of teaching to each lesson. I enjoy what I do and am so thrilled with each bit of progress I see my student athlete gain. I have focused the past 7 years on developing methods to teach water safety to people on the Autism spectrum. I specialize in teaching children with disabilities looking at abilities to build skills. I Love the water and like bringing the inner fish out. We all started this journey from a very safe place surrounded by water and I believe everyone that wants to exercise in water can find strength and comfort there. Meeting an individual and coming up with their goals and using my creative skills to help them find their way and become the swimmer and athlete they dream of. I love the joy the moment the body and mind line up and the hard work is paying off.

Private Swim Lessons

Our seven year old was having trouble putting his face in the water and feeling confident swimming without a floatation device. After three private swim lessons with Julie, he's made more progress than two summers of other swim classes. She's very patient but direct with him, and took extra steps to get to know his learning style. She follows all appropriate COVID safety protocols and we are the only family in the pool area during the lesson. We love watching our son build his skills and confidence!

Private Swim Lessons

After so many lessons with other instructors, I’m pleased to have found Julie. She is so detailed in her techniques, something I have never encountered before. She’s kind, patient and truly wants me to succeed and for that I’m thankful! Super excited to see how much I improve in the weeks to come. Highly recommend!

Private Swim Lessons

I'm 24 year old adult who is going to bachelor party soon and needed to learn how to swim. Found Julie on thumbtack and saw she had great reviews so I thought I'd give it a shot! Just had my first lesson and learned so much in my first 30 minute lesson. She is great instructor and is very adaptable to the skill level of the student. She is really flexible in terms of scheduling, which is great for me since I have full time job. She also has lesson plan for every one she teaches and adapts her future lesson plans based on how previous classes went. I'd recommend her to anyone wanting to learn how to swim or trying to improve their technique! Doesn't matter what age you are, she is great instructor. Can't wait for my next lesson!

I've known Julie for years, and when I started looking for private swimming lessons for my son, who has autism, I went to her to get recommendations for where I should take him. She said that she was hoping to begin working with people with special needs, and asked if we'd like to try her out with our son. Well, we couldn't be happier with our son's progress. Because of his disabilities, it is a slow process, but Julie is eternally patient, and he continues to become more confident in the water every week. I am no longer a nervous wreck every time we're near a pool or lake. My son looks forward to her lessons every week, eagerly. One day he came home from school and wanted his iPad. The battery was dead and if you know any kids on the spectrum, you know this is a recipe for disaster. I told him that we needed to get ready for swimming lessons with Julie and immediately he lit up and forgot all about the iPad. He was goin' swimming with Julie!

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My pricing is pretty straight forward, $75 for the goal setting half an hour meeting, After that the choice of having a monthly membership of $225. This is at a therapy salt water pool in Hudson. If I need to travel to your pool my price increases to cover the travel according to the distance and cost to use the pool I am visiting. This price point gets you in the hands of my training working with people in the Spectrum and adults. I constantly and studying and attending training's to tap into teaching so even the most challenged may learn.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

We set up a time to meet, go over where the customer is at and what goals we are looking to reach. I then plan out custom lesson plans that will most effectively help this individual. I look at their learning styles, challenges that will need to be addressed and what tools in my back ground will best aid in going for the goal.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Have 30 years of working in programs with the Red Cross, YMCA and YWCA along with a Bachelors Degree in Holistic Aquatic Therapies and Principles along with a minor in Disabilities Studies. Certified through Minnesota AuMN to work as a professional for people with ASD. Assessment and goal setting training through USAT Olympics. With my custom lessons I write in a journal book for them each week what we did in the lesson and what can be practiced before our next lesson. I love staying fresh by reading online coaching tips for swimming and have books I refers to often, "Total Immersion" in one of my favorites.
