FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Transportation: $.50 a mile to your home or another mutually agreed upon location Beyond that, I charge $15 an hour for private lessons (any topic, any age). If there are special needs that require significant research on my part, I will ask for another $5 per hour. For group lessons, I ask for another $5 an hour per person ($20 for two, $25 for three, etc) plus transportation, For Spanish immersion lessons in music or yoga, I charge $20 an hour plus transportation. First lesson is half price. Fees can be negotiated pending services requested and specific circumstances. Again, I tailor to the needs of my students and want to come to an agreement that everyone agrees is fair and sustainable.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I communicate weekly with my friends from Chile, keeping my Spanish in good shape. I also read language teacher blogs regularly. I am a Yoga Alliance teacher and complete at least 10 hours a year of continuing education, in addition to regular teaching and study. I also read extensively here.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I'm actually still a student and don't think I'm done yet :) I have so many interests! I'm working toward licensure to be a family therapist, but I also hope to incorporate yoga and music in my practice and to offer bilingual therapy to clients. I also hope to keep teaching and tutoring on the side. My interest in my tutoring areas all grew from being "hooked" emotionally in some way. I started violin when I was 10 because I heard someone play at church and couldn't get over how beautiful it was (though I didn't anticipate the first few months of cat scream sounds). I came to Spanish in college because my camp counseling job offered me a raise if I learned a language, but then I fell in love with the sounds of the Spanish language and the way that it helped me understand people and cultures all over the world. I came to yoga recently during a rough personal time, seeking health--and it gave me confidence, strength, and calm.
