Mobile Mechanics

About Mobile Mechanics

hired 2 times on Thumbtack

I am a mechanical engineering student who does freelance auto repair at a discounted rate. In addition to my formal education, I have several years of experience as a mechanic, so I know how to do things efficiently and correctly.

Services include everything from oil changes to timing belts to suspension work to brakes; I've done it all. I work for $30/hour with a $50 minimum labor charge, and parts are not marked up.

I am a mobile mechanic. I come to you.

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Do they provide detailed estimates and invoices so that you know exactly what you're paying for? Are they considerate of your time so that you can have your car back as soon as possible? Do they update you and explain what's going on if unexpected problems or expenses are found?

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Preventative maintenance really does pay off. For the most part, cars are not designed to be fixed, they're designed to be built efficiently in the factory. This keeps the initial purchase cost low, but can occasionally lead to elevated repair costs due to labor intensive repair processes.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Have you done this before or do you have experience with something similar? Will you stand behind your work if something goes wrong?
