Introduction: I view private teaching as a way to mentor a student, while teaching the value of self-discipline, hard work, and attention to detail. My main goal in my teaching is to help students to realize their potential as musicians so that that realization can transfer to all aspects of their lives. The greatest thing about teaching private lessons is watching the growth of a student over years of study. I love to see a timid 5th-grader blossom into a confident high school student, or to see someone who struggles with an aspect of their playing improve that aspect over long-term study. It's the looking back that is so rewarding!

I love taking lessons with Emma! She always knows what to say to help me get better at whatever I’m working on and gives the best practice strategies and tips! (They’re so good that I’ve been able to use them for other instruments I play). I’ve gotten so much better and lessons are really fun but also helpful. Definitely recommend.

I have been working with Emma for about 4 years now and she is absolutely amazing! I wouldn’t be where I am today as a flute player had I not met her; she completely reformed the way I play and practice and I fully thank her for inspiring me to keep playing flute and major in it in college. Emma is very patient and her attention to detail has had a huge impact on Her, she is more confident in taking on challenging repertoire. Emma is an amazing teacher to work with! She is very friendly, and very talented. She has helped me personally change my playing tone for flute, which is very beneficial. Along with tone, she has helped me work on technically challenging parts of a piece, and shows me different ways I can practice the section to help me learn the part very quickly. Emma is a phenomenal teacher and I enjoy working with her.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
30 minute lessons, $180/month 45 minute lessons, $240/month 60 minute lessons, $300/month Tuition is due at the beginning of each month, September-May. June-August lessons are billed and scheduled separately. I use My Music Staff for scheduling and billing. Families are able to pay their invoices directly through their MMS account. I also accept Venmo and Zelle.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
In our first lesson, we'll do some playing to determine your playing level, then assign lesson materials accordingly. After our first lesson, you can expect to touch on tone, technique (scales), method books (or etudes), and solo material in each lesson. We also make sure to plan ahead for any auditions or performances you have coming up.
