Introduction: Dave Dohearty is a professional music instructor serving southeastern Wisconsin, having taught hundreds of students of all ages and ability levels. His lessons have an emphasis on performance, theory, improvisation and technology and he run the gamut stylistically from rock and metal, to blues, jazz and Latin music. A 2006 graduate of LA Music Academy, Dave had the opportunity to study with some of the most highly regarded musicians and educators in the Los Angeles area including Frank Gambale (Chick Corea, Jean Luc Ponty), Steve Fister (Lita Ford, Pat Travers, Steppenwolf), Phillip Bynoe (Steve Vai), Art Renshaw (Joe Pass), Brad Rabuchin (Ray Charles) and Mike Shapiro (Earth Wind & Fire, Sergio Mendes). Dave has also co-written curriculum for Todd Greene Music Studios in Burlington and for the Kenosha Conservatory of Music's rock band class. Lessons can be scheduled by calling my number.

Dave has been teaching both of my sons guitar for several years. They were both young when they started and Dave has really taught them excellent skills. Both boys have stuck it out and I know it is not only because of Dave's talent but he has a great way with kids. They think he is 'cool'. I would have to agree with that. He's professional and really does a great job. I would recommend him to anyone, both beginner and proficient. My older son is coming home from college and wants to pick up some lessons with Dave on Christmas break. He's been playing for a few years and often plays gigs of his own now. My 11 year old plays rock 'n roll and always has a guitar in his hands! Many kids lose interest when they have to practice. I believe Dave keeps them motivated and they are always excited to go to their lesson.

Dave has been my son's guitar teacher for several years. My son enjoys lessons with him; he has fun and has learned so much. My son is now performing at local venues regularly. Dave is always on time and present for lessons. You truly get your money's worth and the kids really like him.

I highly recommend Dave as a teacher! Our daughter is taking both acoustic guitar and piano lessons from Dave. He started teaching her from ground zero and in a years time, it is amazing to see the knowledge and skills that she has obtained. As parents, we swell with pride when her music teacher at schools pulled us aside to compliment us on her musical knowledge and how much she shares during her class. He does a fantastic job keeping her engaged throughout the lesson with all genres of music. You won't find a better teacher anywhere else!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My process with new students is to find out where they are in their musical development, and where they'd like to be. From there, I can give the information, direction and encouragement to fill that gap and help them reach their goals. Everybody's in a different place in their musical life, and I love having the opportunity to help them connect the dots.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated from the Los Angeles College of Music Guitar Program in 2006. While there I had the opportunity to study with their incredible faculty, which included Frank Gambale (Chick Corea), Philip Bynoe (Steve Vai), and Mike Shapiro (Sergio Mendes). I've been teaching full time ever since. I'm a student of music and guitar to this day, just like you guys. I study relentlessly, and still take the occasional private lesson from people I admire as time allows. I may want a "tune up" on a subject. Or I may just want to spend some time seeing things from a student's perspective. To me there's nothing worse than stagnation, particularly with a skill like playing guitar. If you're not constantly moving the ball forward, you're sliding backward!
