John visited my home to inspect a piece and returned on another day to do the work so I never had to move the furniture. He presented a variety of options for repair and refinishing, including costs associated with each, so I could make the decision that was right for me. The patch work looks great. John combined craftsmanship and artistry to repair a large chunk of missing veneer. You’d never know it was damaged after the repair.Aug 11, 2019VerifiedJohn Mark Power Antiques Restoration's reply
Sally, thank you for the kind feedback! it was a pleasure to meet you!
John Mark Power exhibited professionalism throughout the process of explaining his process of stripping and refinishing our furniture, providing his bid, and promptness in completing the work. His deep knowledge of furniture and its history was reassuring as a client. He also repaired of an antique table for us. He repaired a dining room table and a sofa, both of which had minor damage in our shipment. He was able to do this on site. We were very satisfied with his work and we would hire him again.Jul 31, 2018VerifiedJohn Mark Power Antiques Restoration's reply

John Mark designed a stand for two small Indian chests of unequal size so that I could use them as a footboard. He also repaired and restored the brass inlaid and surface decoration as well as the intricate interior carved surfaces. He created a key to replace one long missing so the chests can be locked. His workmanship is superb! I would trust him with my most prized wood pieces, whether furniture or art.Oct 20, 2015Verified
I'm not sure my review came through so I will post again. I was very satisfied with John Mark Power. What he promised came through in time and workmanship. I had a dining room table and chairs refinished and repairs. My furniture looks like brand new. My set was purchased in 1977. I was unsure if to get rid of it or have it refinished and parts fixed that had come loose. I am so glad I decided to have the work done instead. I was very impressed with the time frame I was given and it was met. His workmanship was above all others. I would highly recommend John Mark Power for restoration services. I am one very happy client.Jun 4, 2015Verified
John did a great job repairing 5 Chairs that my cat chewed. Honestly I can't tell where the damage was anymore 👍Jul 9, 2019VerifiedJohn Mark Power Antiques Restoration's reply
Thank you very much for the review and I am happy you were happy with the work!
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I do, but pricing is based on the type of furniture and the work that needs to be done. It is a bit too much info to put down here!
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I typically like to talk over the phone or email to get a sense of the work. I then usually like to see the piece or at lease some photos before I give a binding estimate. I love to chat as it is easier to establish what exactly needs to be done, so don't hesitate to give me a call
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have worked in this field for many years and primarily trained in a shop working for customers including embassies, antique dealers in Washington, the National Gallery of Art, and Dumbarton Oaks. That being said, No job is too small and I work on modern furniture as well as antiques.
