I began teaching/tutoring during my Junior year of high school after I was informed by my Pre-Calculus teacher that I could tutor and give back to the high school community. I was surprised at the rate of success achieved by students at and below my grade level who I tutored. I continued tutoring till I left high school and even into my college days with the San Bernardino County Library System. I tutored math up to my graduation from college, and began tutoring accounting in addition after receiving a Masters degree. I have been a math tutor since 2005 and I also have tutored financial accounting since July 2017. I've tutored elementary school math, middle school math, GED Math, ASVAB math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Geometry. I have also tutored both levels of introductory financial accounting as well as intermediate accounting 1. I have tutored these subjects both in in-person sessions as well as on online platforms as an independent contractor. I struggled with math when I went through school, and I had tutors who labored to enable my understanding of concepts especially in geometry. Seeing that I could turn struggles around always gives me hope that I can help another person turn around their academic challenges and become masters over their deficiencies. Due to my challenges, when working with a new student, I first try to guage what the students background is concerning the subject matter I'm trying to teach i.e. I try gaining an understanding of the student's historical ease or challenge with the subject matter. If the student has historically been challenged, I'll try to revisit old concepts in order to lay a solid foundation before diving in to newer concepts. If the student has not struggled historically, but is just being challenged by a new concept, I'll try to explain the methodology of and rationale for the new concept with the student. I'll also assign learning reinforcement exercises after teaching the student so that extra practice can enhance tutorials.See more

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.
