Introduction: All dogs need set of fundamental skills--target, recall, focus, and, of course, sit, down, loose-leash walking, etc. These skills are the building blocks for everything you will teach your dog over the course of his life. In other words, I'm not just teaching your dog a few simple behaviors. My goal is to teach your dog how to learn, and to teach you how to teach him. And you'll probably learn a lot from him in the process! There is that magic moment when the dog just "gets it". That moment of understanding (that connection between the dog and the owner) makes it all worthwhile. I love what I do!

Merissa has helped me with the training of several of my dogs! What types of customers have you worked with?
When training dogs, it is as important (if not more so) to be able to communicate effectively with their owners. I have worked with a wide variety of clients--from 4-H kids looking to compete with their dogs, to families trying to teach their kids how to safely interact with a new pet. I tailor my approach to the needs of the dogs and the owners, and, above all, we have fun!
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
An older gentleman came to me with a very sweet older rescued pit bull. The gentleman had experienced some health issues, including a couple of strokes, and had to use a walker. The biggest thing he missed was the ability to take his beloved dog out for walks. I worked with him and his dog (both individually and together) to devise a way for him to hold the leash with the walker safely, and I taught the dog how to not only walk next to the walker without pulling, but also to pick up and hand the leash to his owner when it was dropped. The two of them had a beautiful relationship, and I was honored to be able to help them continue it.
