FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
If the student comes to my home studio, I charge $50/Lesson. Sometimes lessons can run over an hour to make sure the material is understood. I recommend lessons at my studio because I own two drumsets which will allow us to play together instead of switching off on one drumset. Lessons in your home are possible if you own a drumset. The rate depends on the travel distance.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First and foremost I need to see what the student already knows about music so I can teach appropriate material. Next I need to know the personal goals of the student and what the expect out of the lessons. With this information I can develop a successful curriculum.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelors degree from New Jersey City University in Jazz Performance where I studied Drums, Vibraphone, Piano, Music Theory/Ear Training, Arranging, and Composition. My performance career has included playing in pit orchestras, gospel music in church, Afrobeat bands, jazz and fusion, rock bands, recording, weddings, etc. Real world experience is extremely valuable in a teacher. Many teachers often spend excessive time on areas of drumming that don't cross over into successful performances. For example, spending 75% of a lesson on hand technique every lesson isn't going to help the student learn melodies and groove with a bassist. Hand technique is important but should be second to understanding the music. I have years of teaching experience with different age groups and skill levels. Everybody is different and needs a personalized plan.
