Introduction: I believe all singers can develop justified confidence in their singing. For that reason, I draw from the classical Bel Canto tradition of singing, as I believe it can help build strong, healthy voices for singers of ANY style. Older beginners are welcome! I specialize in helping choral singers learn their material. And in solo work in opera, lieder, African-American spirituals. I enjoy the moment a student makes a discovery that allows him/her to do sing more beautifully. It's wonderful to see the pride and confidence develop in a singer who has begun to develop new capabilities: picking up and learning a new piece of music much faster than they could before, singing a phrase all the way through with support, singing in such a way that the poetry shines through, uncovering a beautiful quality of the voice that was previously hidden.

I have studied voice with many proficient educators, music theory and the like. Performed various types’ music and expressed a variety of vocal styles. I would summarize my experience with Michelle as a vocal revival. Michelle is a young refreshing professional offering insightful, personable and inspirational vocal corrections. She has studied nationally and internationally. Her experiences cover all age groups. What I was most impressed with is how Michelle is able to zero in on the voices unique qualities, and bring out rich surprisingly beautiful vocal qualities. I love how Michelle gets around unattractive vocal habits and is able to replace them Tuning my ears towards consistent vocal expression has made me happy. I am very thankful to Michelle for a new vocal vista and to be able to really enjoy my own voice. If you'd consider falling in love with music, and the unique qualities of your own God given voice then Michelle is your best choice.

Michelle is an extraordinary vocal coach and teacher of Classical repertoire, and African American spirituals -- which is RARE and hard to find these days! She has helped me with voice placement and assists me with a repertoire that I want to master for the Community Chorus I sing in, and also to develop solo performance abilities, that strengthen my confidence and contribute to the quality of sound in my chorus. One of the most valuable aspects of her pedagogy, in my view, is that she has been herself trained in the bel canto method of singing, which includes a scientific respect for the Vocal Registers, and adheres to the "proper tuning" of G. Verdi -- and can DEMONSTRATE with her own vocal powers the importance of this register placement, and lower tuning, which maximizes whatever so- called 'natural' vocal abilities you have. Also, her personal approach and confidence building guidance is much appreciated, if you might be otherwise intimidated by other professionally qualified teachers, who may not have the patience of a young dynamic singer who really wants you to succeed in mastering your own voice. She has a beautiful voice herself, and that in itself is an inspiration -- because you can hear that SHE KNOWS HOW TO SING, and SHE CAN TEACH YOU!l

Michelle is not only a wonderful person she is a remarkable teacher. I sing with Michelle in the Schiller NJ Chorus and have private singing lessons with her. Not only is her voice glorious but her teaching style covers the many aspects of singing; anatomy, music theory, voice control/development and gentle informative critiques. She’s the best!

I've worked with Michelle for many years. She is an experienced and patient teacher, well-versed in the principles of bel canto singing. She helped me, and many others whom I've seen her teach, discover their singing voices through both vocal technique and artistic development as we worked on the vocal repertoire. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My lessons for adults are $60 per hour, or $200 for 4 lesson sets (to be used within 6 weeks). For Manhattan students, you will also be expected to cover the cost of the studio space rental ($15 per lesson). For children under the age of 16, lessons will be 45 minutes, at $150 for 4 lesson sets (to be used within 6 weeks.)
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I do a half-priced full trial lesson to work with a new student. We do a full vocal warmup, discuss what the student is looking for, and begin work on a piece of music.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am assistant director and soloist of several choruses in New York and New Jersey with the Schiller Institute. I run classical music programs for children with the Foundation for the Revival of Classical Culture, and have visited more than a dozen NYC schools to present lieder, oratorio, spirituals, and opera to children. I have studied independently with Maestro Jose Briano, Maestra Antonella Bannaudi, Lori Fredrics, and Carmela Altemura.
