Introduction: I am an NYC flutist and educator based in Brooklyn New York. I am current M.M. Performance candidate at the Steinhardt School of Music at New York University and adjunct instructor.
At NYU, I have played with the New Music Ensemble, myriad chamber ensembles, the Large Flute Ensemble, and the NYU Symphony Orchestra.
Additionally, I have been a member of the Brooklyn Wind Symphony since 2014. With this group, I premiered David Maslanka's A Child's Garden of Dreams at Carnegie Hall, and I am featured on the symphonies recently recorded CD: Michael Markowski, available on Spotify.
Novice students age 6 to adult should expect a friendly and fun learning environment. I teach novice players solid foundations in flute: breathing, sound, articulation, free movement. I emphasize proper alignment to promote safe playing for long periods of time. Along the way, I add extended techniques for beginners with the study of a wide variety of standard repertoire. Whether you aspire to play flute in an indie band, beat-box, or start a traditional classical flute track, I can help you reach your goals.
Intermediate to Advanced students will dive into nuance elements of flute playing. Students start by learning the intricacies of tonguing, technique, musicality, and tone. Repertoire of any grade is studied in accordance with ability level and interest. Intermediate to advanced concepts include: tone development, tone color, phrasing, expression, anatomical awareness, mindfulness in playing, double and triple tonging, extended technique study, etudes, scales, theory, ear training, improvisation, composition, and more.
