FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
There is a base price for sitting down and doing a return which includes the client completing a brief questionnaire and providing the required ID. The basic return is one W2 per person, one mortgage statement. If there are more forms then the price will be higher and if there are any refundable credits, such as Earned Income Tax Credit or American Opportunity Credit, the fee will also be higher. These are also considered promotional fees.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For taxes - we require an engagement letter and then we complete an organizer. New clients must present social security or ITIN cards and often we ask for a driver's license. Many states now request that information and will hold up a refund if not present. I conduct a tax interview and then will prepare your returns usually within a week. I do not prepare a return while you wait. Our returns are all e-filed and you are given a paper copy along with your documentation in a folder. Depending on the complexity of the return, we may ask for a retainer of 50% of the quote. In cases where we are representing you before the IRS we require a retainer.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree from Pace University in Banking and Finance and have been involved in the financial world for 4 decades. However, in 1996 I focused solely on the consumer. Taxwise, I have been doing taxes since 2000 and have been an Enrolled Agent since 2007. An Enrolled Agent is licensed by the Treasury to represent taxpayers before the IRS and the license is valid in all 50 states and possessions. There are approximately 53,000 Enrolled Agents in the states and the requirements are quite demanding. I am a member in good standing of the National Association of Tax Professionals and the National Association of Enrolled Agents. I am also a Fellow of the National Tax Practice Institute. Each year I take approximately 80 hours of Continuing Education. I also have had articles published online and in magazines that dealt with taxes and or personal finance.
