Introduction: I've been formally trained in classical, jazz, salsa, samba, rock, funk, soul, and more. I have a degree in jazz studies from Indiana University. I'm an active performer.
My teaching philosophy is that students should pursue the music that they enjoy. I use my students' favorite music as a jump-off point for learning music theory concepts. I also try to broaden my student's horizons to new genres and new professional possibilities.
I push my students hard, but I understand that music is a reflection and a celebration of life.
In many ways, I'm still a student myself. I'm always learning. Music is a journey and a lifelong pursuit. Music has taken me all over Europe, China, and the Caribbean.
I've met interesting people and had wild experiences. I love sharing these stories with my students. Even more, I love hearing my students' stories as they embark on their own musical journey.
I want my students to receive the same amount of joy from music that I have, whatever that means for them.
