FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Growing up homeschooled gave me a lot of time to myself to explore creativity - teaching myself photography through self portraits in the woods as a 14 year old, investing my time into learning about lighting and posing instead of studying for tests with my friends who were in high school. At 18, I moved away from the woods I learned photography in to attend The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and get my bachelors in fine art photography - and yeah, art school is pretty much how they show it in the movies (lots of blue hair, coffee, and angst). Now four years later, I work with creative entrepreneurs and high school seniors to create portraits that tell their story, produce heirloom photographs that stand the test of time and inspire them to keep chasing their dreams. But most days? You’ll find me barefoot in the studio, listening to whatever is on Bon Iver radio and drinking coffee that’s mostly soymilk and sugar.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Creative entrepreneurs, interior designers, jewelry makers, event planners, prop stylists, personal stylists and calligraphers. High school seniors, college seniors and teens.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Find a photographer that makes you feel like you're an old friend that they haven't seen in awhile and you're just catching up. Find a photographer who's posts you love reading because their tone of voice aligns with yours, and you're excited to see what they have to say. Find a photographer who's awkward like you, who laughs at the same puns as you, who likes the same tv shows that you do. Because if you feel comfortable with that person on a face to face level? Getting in front of their camera will not only be a breeze, but you'll feel at ease during your meetings together, you'll enjoy being in front of their camera, and above all else you'll end up with beautiful photographs and an experience you won't forget.
