Hired on Thumbtack

Hired on Thumbtack

The project I was looking for service completing was the installation of 5 new security cameras and the configuration and set up of a new NVR in house. After having several people come to assess the job, I chose Allied because of their proposed level of expertise and offering of a cleaner wiring solution with minimal cutting and repair afterwards. I was looking for a turnkey solution without having to hire multiple vendors to complete the job. I explained before hiring during the walkthrough that I wanted no exposed wiring and a clean look. I also chose Allied because of the explanation of how detailed oriented their wiring solution was pitched and how professional and clean it would look afterwards. In doing research for the company name to find more information about them there was little to find through web searches and social media sites. However I based my hiring off the face to face proposal of 2 installers and the few positive reviews on Thumbtack. After hiring, getting a time set to schedule the installation was lengthy due to slow\no responsiveness to my texts and emails. Also several scheduled dates were missed with no communication. The job was estimated for 8 hours but I was told that it likely would be completed sooner than that which was another reason for hiring them. The mounting and installation of the cameras was fine, however there were areas of exposed wiring that should have been more cleanly hidden. A large amount of time was also spent on trying to get the NVR set up which ended up causing the job to be put on hold and move into a 2nd day after 8 hours was already spent on mounting and wiring. The evening after the first day to save myself the cost of the extra hours of work beyond the proposed time of install I ended up spending 3 hours configuring the NVR myself, adjusting the viewing angles of all 5 cameras, and cleaning up drywall dust from where the ceiling had to be cut on a wiring run. The morning of the 2nd day the rest of the cleanup was performed to complete the job, however there was still a hole that needed to be repaired in my ceiling and wires that were not concealed. It took days\weeks to get that repair scheduled which we had agreed to cover with an access panel instead of drywall. While onsite I was asked to provide paint, a paintbrush, and caulk myself. These items I would have expected to come from the installer as tools of the trade and part of the service. I also asked to have some of the exposed wiring hidden better and this lead to the installer having to make a trip to the hardware store for those supplies. I then made another payment for this final cleanup work. The information about this installer on Thumbtack says they are a perfectionist. I myself am a perfectionist as well and this was not what I expected from the outcome. This review is based off the total work between 2 installers and may not be a completely reflective of Allied as a sole owner as I’m not sure that one of the installers was claiming any ownership in the business name, however both installers were presented together.
