- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I am happy to meet the student where they are, and where they want to go with building their skills. Comfortable focusing on whatever area of interest the customer has, I teach: rhythm, sight reading - from sheet music to tablature - picking and tremolo techniques, development of the ear and more. I like to help create goals and cater the entire process to the customer's preferences and learning styles.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in Theatre from Pacific University. Most of my life experience has involved theater of the musical kind. I have worked with a variety of vocal coaches throughout the years; started with piano when I was 12, music theory and private guitar lessons when I was 15. I have been through the transition from analogue to digital in recording and audio production, and currently teach introduction to audio engineering and also produce bands and solo acts for very reasonable rates. Whether you need something tracked, mixed, mastered - all of it or anything in between - I provide my technical services, a budget studio and suite of services. With regard to teaching, I have volunteered instruction, composing, arranging and/or performing music in countless arenas - from group instruction in church settings to concert events like competitions, galas, luaus and private parties. For the last decade I have been a working musician in the Portland area, recording and performing everything from original works to covers and accompaniment for others' original music. I like to play.
