Gilpin Flute Studio

Introduction: Shirley Gilpin has a master's degree in flute performance, played professionally for 28 years in the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, teaches at Queens University of Charlotte and at her home in Davidson. Has taught flute for over 40 years. Students win competitions and some continue studying flute in colleges and conservatories. Many perform in the Charlotte youth symphonies and win seats in the Western Regional Orchestra and the All-District and All-State Bands. My specialty is children. I enjoy watching them grow and develop. After I teach them for many years, they become my advanced students, and it's extremely gratifying. I also enjoy accompanying students on the piano and letting them explore the solo literature. Lessons become almost like "chamber music" because we collaborate and perform together as a team. I also enjoy creating recital and other performing opportunities for young flutists.
