Introduction: I am an active tutor with two years of experience and a bachelor's degree in biology. I have tutored middle school, high school and adult students in English, science and math. I have also worked as a peer to peer mentor in college biology for 6 months. I am preparing to start my master's in plant biology and am a research intern with the Smithsonian Institution. I have a passion for tutoring because I enjoy finding solutions with my students and coming up with new ways to excite and challenge them as they learn and excel. Anna has been tutoring my two nine-year-old twins in writing and reading comprehension since September of this year. She works to help them develop their ideas and improve their writing skills by assigning them readings along with writing assignments. She challenges my kids to understand the deeper messages in books and to define new words and literary devices. She comes prepared to every session on time and with personalized lesson plans. Notably, she helps my kids with occasional homework and test taking strategies. Anna is a kind and caring tutor who enjoys the personal aspects of tutoring and takes on challenges of teaching. She understands the strengths and the weaknesses of my kids and patiently inspires them to grow and persevere. I understand that in addition to English Anna also does tutoring in Math. Anna has tutored our 9 year old in preparation for Pennsylvania Standardized tests. She was able to determine his weak areas, and worked in the focused way in the shot time span to improve them. She has also willing to investigate and help with strategies to improve his handwriting, which was above and beyond our tutoring goals. What was most impressive is that our son was looking forward to their sessions, and had asked for more. Anna took the time to keep us in the loop about his progress, and has been updating us about home assignment and his progress towards test preparedness after each session.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Pricing is a per hour rate. Referrals to new or continuing customers = a free lesson for both parties.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I listen to my student's needs and look over any current or past work from them. If I am meeting a long-term client, then I also give a diagnostic exam to gauge my student's progress within a given discipline. I usually do not assign work to my students until the second or third lesson. If the student needs urgent help studying for an exam, I may assign work covering the exam material.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Biology with a concentration in Botany and have been trained in the fine arts since the age of 10.
