Study music just like you would in typical instrument lessons, one on one with an experienced teacher, but rather than a guitar or piano, you're making music on your laptop, tablet, or other device. The main focus during these lessons is to create music, in the styles you like, using everything current technology has to offer.
You will learn how to compose, record, mix, and master, using synths, samples, loops, MIDI, OSC, virtual instruments, real instruments, and effects. You will also learn about fundamentals such as music theory, rhythm, and basic keyboard playing, in addition to more advanced concepts like room acoustics, monitoring, and even how the gear you use is built.
Lessons are held at my recording studio, Ridge Hill Sound in East Setauket, or through one on one live online lessons using Soundtrap. With a curriculum based on your individual goals and learning style, I will make sure that you are getting the most out of your lessons and achieve results as quickly as possible.
About the teacher:
Growing up performing in bands has helped me to appreciate the controlled environment, high quality sound, and musical freedom the studio allows. One of the first things I wanted to do after receiving the guitar I had been begging my parents for at age 11, was to record myself playing it. These days I spend my time composing, producing songwriters, recording and mixing bands, and consulting for artists. Styles Ive worked with include everything from rock, pop, folk, metal, funk, hip hop, dance, and world music, to just about anything else you can think of.
As a guitar teacher for over a decade, I noticed many of my students expressing interest in music that doesn't feature a traditional rock band, like dance, hip hop, pop, etc. While showing them how that kind of music is made, I always got a great reaction: students who are excited, engaged, and ready to create. After a few of these students switched from studying guitar to music production with me, I realized there was a need for these kinds of music lessons and began to develop the current program. The results have been very positive, and I'm happy to continue taking on new students.
