My wife and I bought a new construction home about 9 years ago. We used our realtors reference for a home inspector. The inspector didn't discover much during the inspection process. About 11 months later we had over ten thousand dollars in repairs to the home. The foundation cracked in two places and was allowing water to come in, I woke up on Christmas morning to our dining room being flooded do to improper flashing of the patio door. The structural components and box sills had black mold and my sons bedroom and closet had active mold.
I took upon myself to find a lawyer along with qualified contractors to repair the homes current issues and evaluate any other potential issues. Finding qualified people was a very hard process.
Since my new home purchase had so many issues and costs that my wife and I did not expect I decided to become a Home Inspector. I'm currently the Vice President of the Wisconsin Association of Home Inspectors, Education House Chair for the Wisconsin Association of Home Inspectors and The Milwaukee Chapter President for the Wisconsin Association of Home Inspectors.

I want my clients to be at the Inspection. I note everything that I find and take a picture whether it is a maintenance issue or defect. Maintenance issues can become defects. At the end of the Inspection I print out a summary so that we can go over it together with your realtor as to what I have discovered. If you have a good realtor they will be at the Inspection.
