Introduction: The Pilates method was originally known as "Contrology" or the "art of control" by its founder, the late Joseph H. Pilates. Today, Pilates is the ultimate mind/body exercise, practiced by millions of people of all ages, body types, and body conditions. Primary elements within the Pilates system are precision, concentration, and flow of movement. Special attention is given to specific movements which emphasize movement quality over quantity. The mind and breath work together to perform each movement, allowing the practitioner to maximize coordination and body control. The Pilates method was developed by Joseph Pilates in World War II Germany and was specifically designed to target the deep muscles of the abdomen and spine in order to strengthen and stretch the body in a uniform way. He set the tradition of working with clients one-on-one, closely observing and coaching each movement until the client masters the form and intent of the exercise. He was revolutionary in his development, not only of the exercises themselves but of the apparatus (originally, springs attached to hospital beds). His method has never been more relevant.

I am overjoyed to have found such an amazing teacher! Alcyone is beyond passionate about pilates and is extremely motivating making me always want to push myself to work harder. After a few months of privates, my body is changing. I feel STRONG, long and lean and am healing my mind and body with this incredibly necessary break from work and stress.
