- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My process for meeting with a new client over the phone differs from when I meet someone for the first time in my arena. When working with you over the phone, I will be in touch with you via email first. In that email I will introduce myself and include an attachment that has a ‘Getting Started’ form to be completed 24 hours before we begin. This form allows you to get your thoughts organized and on paper and it allows me to be more prepared and somewhat ‘up to speed’ when we begin. This allows us to get the most out of the call that we possibly can. Equine sessions are different in how I prepare for the session. On the initial session I generally do not ask for much information before you arrive. Horses live in the moment and it is important that when we sit down to work with the horse that we too, are in the moment. If you have given me a lot of information ahead of time the horse would have missed it. I know that sounds silly . . .strange? The truth is the horse will be hearing and sensing you as you share. They don’t speak English however they are experts at body language and intuition.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in Counseling Psychology and Equine Experiential Learning. I have worked in community mental health, addiction recovery, child protection, pizza chef and bartender! I add those last two because those jobs have contributed tremendously for to who I am and how I move in the world. Those jobs taught me communication above all else. I have completed multiple certifications in the Equine assisted coaching/therapy industry including EAGALA & PATH. I have been in business for myself for 4 years and have succeeded at a fairly rapid rate. In 2013 I completed a two-year certification program in the Equine Gestalt Coaching Method (EGC). The program included over 250 hours of intensive, hands on, training and experience. Throughout the program the students are encouraged to do their own personal work. This component was one of the major draws for me. I believe every person in the helping industry needs to focus on their own self care and healing.
