FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
To get started, I'll ask for your latest resume or a copy of one you would especially like yours to be like, for instance a coworker's or friend's. I'll share with you some generic examples of resume types so we know we're in the same page. A functional (traditional) resume is very different from a skills-based resume or a hybrid of the two. After a couple quick emails to get these preliminaries out of the way we'll set up a time that works for you for a 30 phone call during which I'll ask you questions that will help me build your resume and cover letter from the ground up. Additional phone time can be prearranged to take place during this call or we can arrange a second call for later. You receive 2 hours of phone time as part of your package deal. Following our call I'll build the resume and cover letter to be delivered to your inbox by a set day you arrange with me. Then it's time for your reaction and for revisions on my end. We repeat the process up to two times more as part of your package deal.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a couple of advanced degrees in writing to accompany my BA in English. Both my most recent and advanced diploma is a terminal degree in the arts field, a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from the University of Idaho. With many essays and creative works under my belt, workshop critiques, and hundreds of hours honing my craft, I'd say my most helpful training was as a writing consultant for four different university writing centers over five years time. Nothing shaped my command of the page like teaching grammar every day. Nothing lifted my understanding of how to get concepts across like showing students where they could improve their own thought processes. Nothing influenced my own resume and cover letter writing like guiding others through their own, reading and reading more about the best practices employers will take notice of today. I'm grateful for all these opportunities that have brought me to this point--where you're considering asking me to help you. Send me a note! We'll talk.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
To make the best use of your time, find someone who'll take the time to ask three things. 1. Your skills 2. Your goals 3. Your dreams The leap from one career stage to the next, a vertical leap into a new sphere of leadership or responsibility or a lateral leap from one field to another may not be as hard, or easy, as you may think. We can cover gaps in your employment. We can lift up your strengths to a higher peak. We can take your dream work into account, positioning you to move up that field because we've done the necessary preparation to get you there.
