- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Owner and Project Superintendent, David Ostlund, has over 32 years experience in the construction industry. He has earned the title of Master Mason from the Georgia Masonry Association. David ranks 11th nationally from his participation in the National Block Laying competition where he received his gold trowel.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
'A jack of all trades, a master of none.' David wanted to ensure that while he knew many trades, he mastered one - Masonry. Growing up in the industry he had access to all facets of construction. David had a passion for geometry and put that to work through building with bricks, block and stonework. Over time he has mastered his trade while broadening it to include speciality projects such as water features, fireplaces and chimneys and other outdoor hardscapes.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
'Communication is key' and 'you get what you pay for.' It is vital for clients and providers to have open communication. In our business it is the contractors responsibility to bring to life a clients vision while sticking to many rules, codes and regulations. An understanding of wants and needs and managing of expectations is imperative. The ole' saying goes, 'you get what you pay for.' This is applicable to the Masonry industry in many forms. Make sure your plans are up to code and the job is being carried out to specifications. Also, Masonry is very detail oriented and rushed work can reflect flaws and result in long term structural damage.
