FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I do custom work. Every project is different. Some have more details than others. Some projects may need more materials than others. For this reason I prefer to price my projects on an individual basis. There are some basic jobs I can price out without questions. Many however I can not. For these jobs it would be an injustice to you as my client as well as to myself as a business. I don’t want to overcharge the client or undercharge my business. I work hard to give a very fair price. Sending photos of front and back of each piece involved is extremely helpful in getting a more accurate quote. My pricing is very comparable, and many times more cost effective than other upholsterers.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Working with a new client is fun and exciting for me. Each project is different depending on the piece of furniture. There are times when I will need to see the project and discuss/measure in order to give an accurate price. If you choose to work with me, I may or may not take the piece with me at that time. If not arrangements will be made for pickup. I will tell you know how many jobs are ahead of you on my job list and give an estimate of time to complete your job. Jobs will not be placed on the job cue until a deposit is received and all materials to complete the job have come in to my workroom. Materials are not ordered until a deposit is made. I am a very patient person and will be happy to work with you on all details of the job and timing. However once a job has been completed I will deliver within 1 week and final payment will be due in full at time of delivery. An invoice will be emailed or sent by mail previous to delivery. I accept credit, cash or check.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in Interior Design from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I am also a certified color expert. I have attended the Custom Home Furnishings school where I studied construction and design of Window Treatments, Advanced Window Treatments, Working with Sheers and Embellishments. I have attended both slipcover workshops as well as upholstery workshops at Kim’s Upholstery in Greenfield, MA. I love education! I am one of those people that will never stop taking classes for whatever interests I may have. I constantly take classes to learn a new technique or a new product that has come out that may benefit my work. Learning from many different professionals teaches you something different every time. In addition I have been sewing literally all my life. I’ve taken many quilting classes and made many quilts. My sewing experiences were in clothing when I was younger, earning an award in tailoring. I made all of my dresses up until my mid twenties when I turned my attention to other aspects of the field.
