Introduction: I *LOVE* teaching Mathematics! I'm Matt! I'm a Math Fanatic. I teach in Rhode Island at both the high school and college level. I have my Master's from Harvard University (Cambridge, MA) in Mathmatics for Teaching. I've been evaulated as "highly qualified" in my two most recent teaching evaluations! But my biggest qualifications are the recations/emails from students. Here are a couple direct quotes from students I've received through email just this month:
"Not only did your teaching bring a level of understanding of the material for me by showing the connections and how certain concepts come about, but your passion for it piqued my interest as well. Soon enough, I found myself reading a famous essay about how the beauty and fun in math is lost to most people due to poor education, counting beyond infinity, and so on in my spare time."
"I was just using Desmos.com to graph the dosage sizes for different ages off the bottle of children's advil. I know it seems random and unrelated but I realized that if I hadn't had you as a teacher this year I would never just be graphing things for fun. Math was always my least favorite subject, but with you as a teacher it was one of favorite classes by far. Math became interesting, and dare I say, fun and oddly satisfying."
I am constantly reflecting on my practices. I connect daily with other Math teachers on Twitter to discuss best practices, share our "top lessons", and explore how to best engage and improve students in their math abilities - and equally important - their MINDSET about Mathematics.
