FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Pricing is generally $20-$25 per weekly half-hour lesson, depending on location- I'm at several places around Kansas City. Double that for hour lessons. Generally hours are for occasional or one-time lessons.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It varies, depending on the student, their knowledge base, and their goals. For example, for a more experienced musician wanting to learn dobro, mandolin, or banjo as a second instrument, the approach would be different than if learning music for the first time. For first timers, I like to get them playing something that inspires them ASAP, so we start with some rudiments and away we go on some easy tunes. There's plenty of time to get into theory and technique later.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have played for about 50 years now. Started on the cello in school orchestra in fourth grade. Got into 5-string banjo in 7th grade. Picked up dobro, mandolin, guitar and bass along the way. I've been teaching for over 40 years now, and have played in country, bluegrass, jazz, hawaiian, cowboy, and jug bands.
