FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I try to price fairly but my pricing depends on what will be needed from me as far as time, research, and active participation is concerned. Look at it like a lawyers billing cycle. I will charge you a fair price for the amount of work I will do directly on your project.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I learn what my customer wants to achieve, then I look at where my customer has gotten to on their own. If they want me to write something for them, I get as much information as possible and as much of their own work as possible so I can mimic their style. If they want something edited, I work in Track Changes on Microsoft Word and edit their project using this program. I make suggestions on form and structure and then I input grammar, punctuation and syntax changes. They can then accept or reject my changes. As a life coach, I find out what their goal is for the particular issue they are having and then I give them advice on how to achieve that goal. In most cases, just getting the client to admit what they are after will help them focus on what is really going on and what we need to do to get our goal achieved.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am currently a junior in college and I have taken several writing and grammar classes in college. I have also been writing for the past 25 years and in doing so I have also been editing my work. My daughter is a published writer and I do all of her editing. The most important life experience I have as a writer is that I am an avid and veracious reader. I know what sounds good and what doesn't. I know what I like as a reader so I know what needs to be done and how to do it as a writer. As a life coach I have lived a very diverse and challenging life. I was injured severely as a young man and had to take 13 months off work. I was a new husband and dad and the challenges of having half my pay gone while trying to raise 2 kids was a big challenge. I have also had to change jobs 3 times in my life moving from Wyoming to Colorado to Wyoming again. My mom has died recently and my daughter was diagnosed with ovarian cancer recently. I definitely have the skills to deal with bad news and make the best of bad situations. I have had challenges in my marriage, besides the usual ones with money and the prospect of extra-marital stuff, I have had to help care for my wife since 2001, when she was diagnosed with Black Disc Disease. A congenital spinal disease that affects her vertebrae. Now my daughter has a rare cancer and is just 19 years old. I know how to get bad news. I know how to make lemon flavored vodka out of lemons.
