- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My typical process start with understanding the new customer's photography needs. If working with a portrait client then I will suggest location, timing, and pricing option that's most suitable for session. I will then explain how to hold a date/time with a retainer fee with is applied to the total investment. Then when the client can expect to see the proofs for selection as well as when/how will the final images be delivered. Each step will be spelled out with clear instruction as we progress through the process. For event clients, I usually schedule a phone consultation to discuss the event in detail. We will go over the basic timeline of the event and come up with a photography game plan.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
1) My advice is to ask the photographer you are considering for a few full session/event examples. There will be images that you love and some not so much. But overall if the sample events/session represent the outcome that you'll be happy with, then you and the photographer is most likely a good fit. Just make sure you do not book someone simply based on the best of the best images on their website. 2) Another advice is ask how many photos you'll get to review to either select from or to keep for portraits. Sometimes a package will state include 10 images but then you only get to pick from 20 images. You know there are many more taken so ask the photographer on their filter process. I find that the images that are my absolute favorites are not always what the clients pick. So for a typical family session of 4 people I usually present clients around 50-80 images if not more to pick from. I feel like it is the photographer's job to produce as many good images for clients to select from. Then it is the clients' decision on how many and which ones they would like to keep based on budget.
