FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Every piano is different and every situation is different. The exact cost of tuning your piano will be determined after the piano has been inspected in person. Pianos are far more complex than most people realize, and may need some mechanical adjustments in addition to tuning. Some problems are very simple to fix with no extra cost. Some pianos need serious repairs or restoration to feel and sound their best. Also, I never have any extra charges for mileage or travel time within my normal service area of Northern New Jersey and Rockland County, New York.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First, I’d like to know the brand name of your piano and when your piano was last tuned. I can then give an general estimate of the fees. If repairs are needed or the piano has not been tuned for several years, I will need to inspect the piano in person before giving you an exact quote. Usually, repairs and cleaning jobs are simple and can be done at the same time as tuning.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I’m a former Associate member of the Piano Technicians Guild and a current member of The Master Piano Technicians of America. I’ve attended many classes and seminars covering everything from piano tuning to complete restoration.
