Introduction: I am an experienced and trained personal tutor, who supports (via Skype or personal visits) individual high school and college students in their academic subjects, prepares students for standardized tests (such as GRE, SAT, ACT, ISEE, etc.), and works with students to develop strong Application Essays and Supplements for bachelor and graduate college admissions, and college transfers. Ken Markham has been my children’s tutor for seven years now, in that time he worked with my daughter covering Mathematics, Grammar and preparing her to take both the ACT’s and SAT’s. My daughter had a very positive experience working with Ken and as a result was accepted into all her schools and has just returned to college to start her Junior year. Ken is now working with my son who has just started his Freshmen year in high school. I think it's safe to say that Ken is the smartest person we have ever encountered. It doesn't matter if the subject is Math, Science, English and even Latin he is on top of it, asking questions and learning more, and showing a passion for knowledge that is simply unparalleled, Ken is a naturally gifted teacher and leader and a wonderful tutor.

Ken is the perfect tutor for my son (a sophomore in high school). Ken was an exceptional tutor. He had a very disciplined approach with my son when preparing for the ACT. In addition to helping him with concepts/ test taking skills, Ken had keen insight into the whole college board process. A godsend for an overwhelmed student and parent. My son's score went up 6 pts. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My base price is $100 an hour for individual Skype video calls. For one-on-one home visits, there is an additional charge for my travel time, typically $25 to $40.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My process is to work one-on-one toward the agreed objective, such as standardized test preparation, college essay development, or academic support. In the case of academic support, we strengthen study skills, practice and clarify class material, and prepare for quizzes and tests. Depending on the tutoring requirements, I may set homework, liaise with the school staff to ensure that the tutoring activity is appropriately focused, or provide additional study material.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a retired professional mechanical & production engineer, not only skilled in quantitative and science material, but also a master of language arts, verbal reasoning, and critical thinking. I began tutoring over 10 years ago, working and receiving formal training from The Princeton Review and BrainStorm Tutoring, but soon branched out on my own account and have since built up a substantial practice, typically working with around 50 students a year.
