Perfect English NYC
About this pro
Hi, I'm Marion. I'm an experienced English/ESL/EFL teacher offering reasonably priced classes in the New York metro area and online. My students have included bankers, artists, graduate students, engineers, and medical professionals. All classes are 1:1 and are designed to meet your individual needs. We can focus on conversation, comprehension, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, test prep, job-related vocabulary, tourist/travel English, understanding American culture, or whatever you'd like. I offer classes mornings, afternoons, and evenings. I can travel to meet you in your office or neighborhood. There are also locations I regularly use for lessons in several neighborhoods. References are available. I'm happy to answer your questions. (I am new to using this site for work, but I can show you reviews on request from other sites.) I hope to see you soon. I love meeting interesting people from all over the world and having great conversations. My students progress quickly because the lessons are one to one. It's great to see people improve and understand more. Sometimes my job allows me to "show off" my city. On warm days, I might meet students outdoors in a public park or plaza or even have a "walking lesson" in a store or tourist attraction.

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I charge a set rate for one hour lessons. I may charge more if I am traveling to a student's neighborhood. The rate for online lessons is little less than the rate for local lessons. There are some discounts for long-term students, and lessons longer than one-hour are pro-rated at a lower hourly rate. lessons, l
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? Before I start lessons with a new ESL student, I try to get an idea of their level and their goals for the class. That way I can be prepared the first time we meet.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I started tutoring 1:1 at LaGuardia Community College after I graduated from university. More than half of my students were second language learners. Later I started teaching there. I have also taught at the Community College of Vermont, Queens College, and in New York City public high schools. I have a masters in social work and a masters in fine arts (creative writing). I learned Spanish when I was an adult, so I know how difficult it is to learn a second language. I don't speak French, Italian, or Portuguese but I know a little about the grammatical structure and some vocabulary in those languages. While I don't speak any Asian languages, I know a little about how they differ from English in structure.
