Introduction: My name is Cameron Schubert, I have been studying music over 15 years, and have been playing cello for 11 years. I have been performing and teaching privately for the last 4 years, and I am currently the cello and ensemble instructor for the New West Symphony of Thousand Oaks.
As a musician, I specialize in Celtic and Classical music. I have enjoyed using modern techniques such as the 'chop' (developed originally in bluegrass music), the myriad of Irish ornamentation, as well as singing while playing.
I believe in a strong classical foundation for technique on the cello with a supplementation of the student's personal interests to keep interest and passion alive. For example, with some of my students we have worked off of 2Cellos arrangements after the Bach Cello Suites. With a challenging instrument such as the cello, having fun while working and building technique is essential.
For beginners/intermediate:
-Study from Methode Du Violoncelliste and Suzuki
-Scales from Klengel Technical studies
-Either requested or selected basic tunes (Classical, Celtic, Pop)
-supplemental etudes and my personal exercises
For Advanced/Curious students I teach:
-Sonatas, Cello Suites
-Modern techniques such as 'chop'
-Irish/Bluegrass Rhythm and ornamentation
-Singing while playing the cello
Online:
For online lessons, I use skype. I give you my skype ID and we set up a time for an initial lesson. With Skype I can send you documents and audio files and scans of anything you may need. I can record the pieces at a slower tempo and send it to you so you can play along with me on your own time.
Payment:
For online payments: I accept Venmo (preferred) and PayPal.
Besides cello technique, I believe it is incredibly important to be resourceful with the internet to widen your musical palate and to observe people who you want to emulate. I really enjoy teaching students who have a lot of self motivation, or are motivated to develop self motivation.
