- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
After initial contact via phone or email, during which we both have the opportunity to feel each other out and make sure we're a good fit, I like to meet with the customer at the project site. This allows me to see first hand where the project is going, get a sense of the style and scope of the project, determine any special needs or requests and note any potential obstacles before they become problems. Once I have the "lay of the land," so to speak, I like to sit down with the customer and bring the project to life with state of the art design software. This allows me to show the customer a scaled three dimensional rendering of their project and gives them a realistic idea of how the project is going to look in their space and what it's going to cost. If the customer decides to move forward with the project, we write up a contract detailing the scope of work to be included, the time frame in which the project is to be completed, materials to be used and finish types and colors etc... At the signing of the contract I require a deposit of anywhere from 50% to 75% to schedule the project and begin the work. A 50% deposit is the norm, however, there are are projects that come up at times where the materials for job exceed 50% of the cost; not often, but it happens.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I literally grew up in the woodworking industry. I can't recall a time when woodworking wasn't a major part of my life. I began in my dad's shop building antique reproduction furniture for Habersham Plantation, Frontier Manor, and others. As well as custom pieces for individuals. I started my own shop and got into the custom kitchen and bath business about thirty years ago and have had my hand in both the design and building side ever since.
