Introduction: With extensive professional experience across a wide range of styes from classical to pop/rock, I'm proud to offer a unique perspective in my cello lessons. I strive to strike a balance with my approach, building on a foundation of traditional classical study while embracing the many wonderful roles the cello can play in the modern music world. As an active performing and recording cellist, I bring passion and real world experience, and I'm always looking for new and exciting repertoire to bring to my students. I take pride in inspiring a true love of music in my students. As a result, I place great importance on understanding not just how to play the cello, but why we're playing it in the first place. I try to discuss the tools of playing (i.e. proper bowing and finger technique) in the broader context of things like phrasing, character, and storytelling. It's incredibly rewarding to see a student finally realize that music can be more than simply following instructions and playing the correct notes!

Trevor is the perfect cello instructor for my son. My son loves the cello and our goals were for him to advance with his skills while focusing on maintaining his fundamental love of playing. Trevor is able to accomplish both these goals with ease. He has built a wonderful rapport with my son such that he looks forward to his lessons. We began with in person lessons which were terrific and to our surprise when we had to transition to lessons by SKYPE they were just as good, and in some regards even better than the in person lesson. Based on our experiences we would highly recommend Trevor to any cello student.

I can't tell you how lucky we are that we found Trevor. We just moved to Manhattan Beach and was looking for a cello tutor for my daughter, Courtney. Originally she wanted a female tutor..so we tried them all. She didn't like any of them. We found Trevor and decided to give it a try. At first, she was very nervous about having a male tutor, but she loved his technique of teaching from the start. He was so patient and knowledgeable. I saw such a improvement to my daughter's playing...I'm amazed. Hire him...He's a gold mine!!

Trevor is a great teacher and explains things thoroughly. He also plays beautifully and was able to communicate better technique in a way that makes sense

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I charge $100 per hour for private cello lessons, billed monthly in advance. As I often travel to my students, some additional compensation for travel may be requested depending on distance.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

When a new student is interested in studying with me, I typically find it's helpful to have one trial lesson to determine if it will be a good fit. If everything seems to go smoothly, I work with the student to decide on repertoire that will match his or her skill level and musical interests. I offer lessons either in person, in which case I travel to my students, or online via Zoom or a similar platform.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Cello Performance from Berklee College of Music, and over 15 years of professional playing and teaching experience. I am currently active as a studio musician in Los Angeles, recording for film and TV on numerous orchestral scores.
