FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
As all the instructors at The Ballroom Project are independent contractors there is no set standard. Each teacher has their own prices for lessons and group classes. Because they are not employees, and because we are not a franchise, this means the price are competitive because there is no middleman. Generally, the price range for private lessons is 75$-90$. Most teachers offer a discounted number of lessons to first time dancers. Group classes range from 10$-20$.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The typical process for working with a new customer starts with a conversation. What interests this person about learning to dance...are they preparing for a wedding or event? Is this going to be a relationship nuturing date-night with a partner ? Is this to relieve stress in a positive way through the exercise and skill-building of competitive dancing? Or do they just want to be able to go to a fun event, ask or be asked to dance, and go have a great time on the dance floor? Understanding the motivation is the first key to providing a perfect learning environment. Then I will take into consideration any time constraints, budget constraints, or other concerns the new customer may have. It is hard to learn if something about the process may be worrisome, so we try to overcome any obstacles in that first meeting. Based on the conversation with the client I will suggest they take their lessons with either myself or one of the amazing dance instructors who work at the studio. The recommendation is always based on whom I feel would be the best match, whether that be founded in personality, height, dance style expertise, or a combination. Usually, by the time the new customer walks onto the ballroom floor for the first time we have already established the parameters by which they will have a great lesson! Their teacher will continue to pay close attention to them over the first course of lessons, understanding how the customer learns, and what combinations of teaching methods will be the most effective for that particular individual.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have danced since I was a child, as have most of the instructors at The Ballroom Project. Additionally, I have spent years under the tutelage of the great world masters of ballroom dance while competing professionally with my husband. The other instructors in the studio have also spent many years training with great mentors in the different styles of ballroom (latin, smooth, etc.), earning certifications in the different syllabi of these styles, and competing sucessfully with their professional partners and amateur students across the country. Even the teachers in our studio who have retired from professional competitions still take training classes with the wonderful choreographers and coaches who guided them when they were active competitors. This is very important because it means we are all always learning, our skills are always finely tuned, and everyone is still very excited about the joy of dance in our lives.
