Our organization asked Lori to come in and work with a group of returning citizens (formerly incarcerated people) for 20-hours. Over the course of this 20-hour working session, her goal was to help the group create solutions that would allow them and other formerly incarcerated person reintegrate safely back to their communities. As the session, started many people felt overwhelmed by the process and the task before them. However, Lori knew it was possible and stayed on task as a master facilitator and coach. 20-hours later, the group emerged feeling as if life post prison could be better. The individuals where recharged and energized to be productive members of their communities. Lori is one of our organizations go to coaches. She truly coaches with a purpose and has a heart for all people.

Nothing says upbeat and motivated like Lori ames-Townes. She has both the academic training as well as life experience that gives her and ultimately you a competitive advantage. She brings positive energy and focus to problems. Lori quickly identifies problems and sees opportunities. Her ability to coach individuals, small working groups and communities towards a solution is amazing. And the best part, Lori is always wearing a smile. I recommend her without hesitation!

I had a chance to learn and not just be taught, in a setting that demanded interaction and participation. This allowed me to take bold steps and become better prepared for advancement. What was really wonderful is that this course was non-judgmental.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I typically have an initial consultation with a customer. That allows me to tailor the services to fit the need(s) of the customer.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Lori received her Bachelors (Morgan State University) and Master’s Degrees (University of Maryland) in clinical Social Work. She completed her full academic studies for her PhD in Public Health (Morgan State University). An Alumni on the Move Award was bestowed upon her by Morgan State University School of Social Work (March 2015). In 2012 she was honored by Morgan State University when she received The Presidential Award in recognition of her outstanding achievements and accomplishments. She has been honored by NLADA’s receiving the National Gideon’s Heroes Award (2003) and Mitigation Life Time Achievement Award (2006) respectfully.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Lori has over 20 years of leadership and management experience. As a Director Leadership and Program Development, at an organization with more than 800 employees she has proven her ability to help others grow in the are Leadership and Management. Lori has developed programs that are now national models for other agencies. In 2015, The Daily Record Newspaper named her as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women.
