Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: We are a certified licensed General Contractor company who serves the public at handyman prices while maintaining a professional finished to every job we do. Everything home related we do, from home building to home repairs in restoring even concrete driveways and outside structures. Doing a job for a costumer to me is like doing it for myself, I want to be able to look at the finished work with pride knowing I had a part in making it complete. My father and brother in law has been doing this for 20 years and 11 of those years I've been right there with them learning what has now became my passion.

I had high hopes for Penman Construction and thought Shermon was a very nice man. Pricing was competitive, and I was told my deck tear down and rebuild of a smaller deck would be a 2-3 day job, depending on the city inspector. There was a day and a half delay waiting for the inspector to come out to inspect the holes prior to pouring concrete. That was not their fault. My project ended up taking almost 3 weeks, starting on April 17th and ending on May 7th. Rain played a role in this, but was not the main reason. The main reason was that they did not work full days- it was a few hours one day, no work the next, and a half day another. My project was treated like a side job. Maybe it was. Communication was very poor. I never knew when they would arrive, when they were leaving, and when they would be back. I had to text/message repeatedly asking when work would resume. They would leave without saying a word, even though I work from home, and made myself visible and accessible. When they were “finished,” I had to ask them to come back because the stair stringers had no support brackets, the stairs moved when I walked on them, the stairs had not been affixed to the concrete, and no railings were in place on the 5 steps. There were days without any response to my messages, and the project was finally finished by a different crew sent by Shermon. My deck looks like it was worked on by multiple and differing crews because it was. Sloppy finishing, inconsistent work, clear mistakes, and obvious shortcuts. I was told my chimney chase would have two support brackets (which the inspector pointed out when checking the holes). It was not done and only one corner is currently supported. I was told landscape fabric would be placed under the deck so weeds would not grow. It wasn’t. I was told the stair risers would be clad with wood. They weren’t. It has been less than 3 weeks since the project was finished, and deck boards are already popping up/rising. I am sorry to say I would not recommend this company, and will not do business with them again.

Details: New deck or porch construction • Medium (150 - 300 sq ft) • Wood • No existing plans, but have a good idea of what I want • Residential
