Introduction: I have been playing and teaching piano professionally for over 10 years in the Milwaukee area, and am excited to begin developing students in their musical endeavors in the Tri-Cities area. As a professional piano accompanist for ballet school classes, as well as a church keyboardist/organist, I have a unique skill set for musical concepts of pace, rhythm, and style matching -- and I enjoy imparting these concepts when teaching others to play as well. My background also includes placement in state piano competitions as a teenager, advanced piano studies in college, teaching music-and-motion (Kindermusik) classes for young children, and providing accompaniment and special music for weddings and other events. I enjoy facilitating students in their desired achievement, whether that achievement is laying the foundation for a career as a professional musician, gaining an understanding and appreciation of musical craft, developing a well-rounded learning base as a child, or just being able to play a favorite tune for relaxation and pleasure. My expectations of the type and amount of at-home practice depend on the desired aim of the student (or parents), not simply on a set formula. First I hear your aims, determine if and how I can best support you in reaching them, and then we mutually set the framework for how you'll achieve the short and/or long-term goals. For wedding and special event music: I'm always happy to play the classics, but love working with you to incorporate your favorite pieces and melodies, or to suggest music based on what I learn of your style and tastes. I understand how important it is that the music undergirding one's biggest day be exactly what you want -- even played the piano at my own wedding, just to hear my own favorites!
